Beltangady: Bishop Inaugurates Newly-built Holy Redeemer Church

Beltangady, May 3: The inauguration and blessing of the new church and grand finale of post-centenary silver jubilee of Holy Redeemer parish, was held on Thursday May 3.

Bishop Dr Aloysius Paul D’Souza of Mangalore inaugurated and blessed the new church and belfry on Thursday morning.

Bishop Dr Gerald Isaac Lobo of Shimoga inaugurated the Jubilee memorial hall.

Ivory Coast Archbishop and Apostolic Nuncio Fr Ambrose Madtha concelebrated the Eucharistic celebration along with Bishop Dr Aloysius, Bishop Gerald, Beltangady parish priest Fr James D’Souza, assistant parish priest Fr Prakash Paul D’Souza, and other clergies.

Apostolic Nuncio Fr Madtha, in his homily, said that one should lead a devout life by following the ideals of Jesus Christ. One should introspect on his or her spiritual life and change for the better.

Fr Boniface Pinto conducted the liturgical service. Bishop Dr Aloysius presided over the grand finale and felicitation programme after the Holy Mass. Fr Madtha was the chief guest on the occasion.

Bishop Dr Gerald, Bishop Dr Lawrence Mukkuzhy of Beltangady, Sri Kshetra Dharmasthala Dharmadhikari Dr D Veerendra Heggade, MLA K Vansant Bangera, Ursuline Franciscan Sisters Mangalore Provincial Superior Sr Lenita D’Souza, and DK district BJP in-charge K Prathapsimha Nayak were the guests of honour.

Bishop Mukkuzhy felicitated Beltangady parish council vice-president Vincent T D’Souza, secretary John Arvin D’Souza, and inauguration committee convener Lancy A Pereira.

Fr Madtha felicitated the former parish priests who served at Beltangady parish during the programme.

Fr James welcomed the gathering. Lancy Pereira proposed the vote of thanks. Fr Rupesh Madtha and Sr Anitha D’Souza compered the programme.

‘Kala Kambula’, Tulu play by Devdas Kapikad’s troupe, was staged as part of the entertainment programme.

The new church was built at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore and the parishioners offered 15,000 voluntary man hours thereby contributing Rs 30 lac in this regard. Parish priest Fr Jamesh will celebrate the silver jubilee of his priesthood on Sunday May 6.

A new bell weighing 450 kg was imported from Italy in addition to the bell weighing 50 kg that was earlier imported from France are mounted in the belfry. The new bell was donated by a local donor.

    Very Special feeling looking at the New Church Photoes took me back to those days I played and studied around the old church in Church School / St Theresa school nearby.Even though I am Hindu, I used to attend the church prayers when I was small with my neighbour she was christain.So I have that Touch in my heart.
