Pakistan not doing enough on Mumbai Attack: Clinton

Kolkata, May 7 (IANS): Stressing that all those involved in the 2008 Mumbai attack be brought to justice, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton Monday accused Pakistan of not taking "steps which India and US have been repeatedly" requesting in this regard.

"You have to go after those who are trying to kill you. We have announced a $10 million bounty on the Mumbai attacks mastermind Hafiz Saeed. We want all those involved in the attack be brought to justice," said Clinton.

Ten terrorists from Pakistan sneaked into Mumbai in November 2008 and let loose a reign of terror over three days that saw 166 people, including foreigners, being killed. One of the attackers, Ajmal Amir Kasab, was arrested.

"We are well aware that Pakistan government has not taken steps which India and US have been repeatedly requested to do in this regard," Clinton said while participating in an interaction moderated by NDTV.

Hafiz Saeed, founder of the Lashkar-e-Taiba militant group, is accused of masterminding the Mumbai terror attacks. The US last month announced an award of up to $10 million for information leading to arrest and conviction of Saeed and $2 million for Hafiz Adbul Rahman Makki, under the Rewards for Justice programme, for information on the two terrorists.

Clinton said that its war against terrorism had made rapid progress.

"We want to disable Al Qaeda and we have made significant progress. Still there are some leaders on the run. We believe there are some of them to be in Pakistan and we and our counterparts are after them. The terrorism network is broad based than any other group and it may take a longer time to completely dismantle it," she said.

Clinton also said India and the US need to work together towards creating religious tolerance.

"We have to work towards greater religious tolerance," added Clinton.

Clinton is on a three-day trip to India that began Sunday. After her visit to West Bengal where she met Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, she will fly to New Delhi.
