Chile's Copper Exports Soar


Santiago, May 8 (IANS/EFE): Chile's copper exports totaled $3.58 billion in April, up 57.3 percent from the $2.27 billion posted in the same month last year, the Central Bank said.

Exports totaled $14.05 billion in the first four months of 2012, up 34.2 percent from the $10.47 billion in sales registered in the same period last year.

Chile's total mining exports were $3.95 billion in April, down 7.2 percent from the April 2011 figure of $4.26 billion.

The South American country's mining exports totaled $15.56 billion in the January-April period, up 34 percent from the same period in 2011, when they totaled $11.61 billion.

Chile's copper exports totaled $42.62 billion in 2011, up 5.88 percent from the $40.25 billion figure posted a year earlier, the Central Bank said Monday.
