Bangalore: Yettinahole Drinking Water Project Launch by June 20

Bangalore, May 9: The Yettinahole water project aimed at meeting the drinking water needs of Kolar, Chikballapur, Bangalore Rural, Tumkur and Ramangaram districts is expected to be launched by June 20.

Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda, who chaired a meeting with experts and officials of the Water Resource Department, said the final shape to the project would be given soon.

The project is aimed to supply water from Yettinahole, a tributary of the Netravati, in Sakleshpur taluk in Hassan district, to drought prone districts.

Gowda told reporters after the meeting that a detail project report (DPR) on Yettinahole has been prepared and tenders have been called.

The project would be launched before June 20, he said pointing out that a sum of Rs. 200 crore was set aside in the 2012-13 budget.

If the project is implemented, it will ensure 25 tmcft of water to five districts.

The people of Sakleshpur and environmentalists have been opposing the project, citing possible damage to the ecologically sensitive Western Ghats.

Water Resources Minister Basavaraj Bommai said the Chief Minister would urge the Maharashtra Chief Minister to release water from Koyna dam forthwith.
 

Second Bilingual Edition of Constitution Released
 
Meanwhile, at a separate function, Law and Parliamentary Affairs Minister S Suresh Kumar released the second bilingual edition of Constitution of India.

The book contains Kannada text of 36 Central Acts.

Speaking after release of the book, Suresh Kumar said the first Kannada edition of the Constitution was brought out in 1976. Later, a revised edition was published in 1985.

In the second edition, the text of the Constitution of India has been brought up-to-date by incorporating all the amendments, including the 95th amendment to the Constitution in 2009.

Secretary of Law and Parliamentary Affairs Department G K Bore Gowda and officials of the Directorate of Translation were present.
