Bangalore: Lt Gen Bhalla Thanks CM on Karnataka NCC

Bangalore, May 9: Lieutenant General P S Bhalla, Director General of National Cadet Corps, who is on a two-day visit to the city, called on Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda today.

The DG NCC conveyed to the Chief Minister that Karnataka cadets had performed exceptionally during the Republic Day camp at Delhi and thanked the Chief Minister for providing excellent support to NCC activities, a defence release said.

Lt Gen Bhalla emphasized that more was needed to be done for developing infrastructure for effective conduct of NCC training.

Towards this end, he sought the assistance of the Chief Minister for creation of NCC training academies, as is being done in States such as Punjab and Gujarat.

The DG NCC also requested the Chief Minister to examine feasibility of introducing special entry schemes for NCC cadets in professions such as the State police, as incentives.

He also reviewed the maintenance activities at Jakkur Airfield for NCC micro light aircraft ando inspected facilities available for conduct of the All India Vayu Sainik Camp which is conducted at Jakkur each year by the Karnataka and Goa Directorate.

Interacting with cadets of No. 1 Karnataka NCC Air Squadron at Jakkur, Lt Gen Bhalla advised cadets to build on their experience gained during training activities at NCC.

Congratulating cadets who had participated in Republic Day Camp 2012, where Karnataka Directorate was awarded the Runners Up Trophy by the Prime Minister, DG NCC exhorted cadets to capitalise on the confidence level attained, going ahead in their careers with the belief that if they set their mind to it, they could achieve any goal.

Addressing the girl cadets, he highlighted the fact that NCC provided opportunities which would otherwise not be available to them, especially in rural areas. NCC ensured that, out of the authorized vacancies, at least 33 per cent were reserved for girls.

The DG NCC was accompanied by Air Commodore S S Deshpande, Deputy Director General, NCC Directorate (Karnataka & Goa).
