Sullia: Boy Drowns in Water Tank

Sullia, May 24: In a drowning incident reported from Pallodi near Panja of Subrahmanya here on Wednesday May 23, a boy died, while another who accompanied the victim was rescued in a water tank mishap.
The deceased is identified as Roshan (11), son of late couple Babu Koraga and Baby Koraga of Shivaji Janatha colony of Pallodi. Praveen (9), the brother of the deceased was rescued.
It is said that Roshan and Praveen allegedly opened the lid of the water tank located near their house and got into it to play. The tank was 2.5 metre high. Eventually Roshan drowned due to suffocation and his inability to swim while Praveen was trying to swim for life. Meantime the panchyath pump operator Lingappa, hearing the rescue call in the tank, peeped into the water tank. The pump operator, on seeing the duo swimming for life, immediately rescued Praveen from the water tank. Meanwhile Roshan had already drowned.
The incident was then brought to the notice of villagers and the police. The water tank is usually kept locked. However, it is learnt that the lock was broke open.
Orphan Children
The father of the orphan children died a year ago after suffering from ill health. The mother had died four years ago. Jeevan, the elder brother of Roshan is currently studying in class 8. Roshan after completing class three had to join class four. Praveen is a class two student in Panja Govt Higher Primary School. The orphan children were looked after by Babu’s sister Rekha. The house in which Babu was living along with his wife and children is empty now.
