Jagan's Mother Continues Protest against Son's Arrest

Hyderabad, May 28 (IANS): YSR Congress party leader Y.S. Jaganmohan Reddy's mother Y. S. Vijayamma Monday continued to stage a sit-in to protest her son's arrest on charges of amassing illegal wealth, officials said.

Vijayamma along with Jagan's wife Bharathi, sister Sharmila and other family members staged a 'sit-in' outside their Lotus Pond residence in Banjara Hills.

Dozens of other leaders and activists of the party also joined them in the protest.

Jagan's family members were arrested Sunday night when they sat on protest in front of Dilkusha Guest House, where Jagan was kept after his arrest by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in the disproportionate assets case.

Vijayamma, who is honorary president of YSR Congress, is demanding that the CBI give them reasons for her son's arrest.

After meeting Jagan Sunday night, she hit out at Congress president Sonia Gandhi, blaming her for the arrest.

The widow of the late chief minister Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, known as YSR, alleged that Sonia Gandhi was targeting Jagan for defying her and going ahead with the 'odarpu yatra' (to console of families of those who died of shock or committed suicide) following YSR's death in a helicopter crash in September 2009.

Jagan and Vijayamma quit the Congress in 2010 and floated the YSR Congress last year.
