Mangalore, May 30: The students of Karnataka Polytechnic (KPT) under the banner of Akhila Bharatiya Vidyarthi Parishad (ABVP) staged a protest at Basaveshwara circle, KPT here on Wednesday, May 30.

Condemning the modifications of diploma entrance process being restricted to only one centre, the students urged Karnataka Examination Authority (KEA) to conduct exams in every district as it was held each year.

Ramesh K, state secretary of ABVP,  said that in the present academic year, the admission process has been placed in only one centre in the state of Karnataka for the course of technical and non-technical courses. The admission process is shifted to Malleshwaram of Bangalore.

"As most of the students who get into technical education hail from rural places, it is difficult for those students to rent a house in Bangalore just to go through the admission process. We condemn the changes and immediate action must be taken to modify the system of admission process," he urged.

The protestors requested Karnataka examination department not to restrict the centre of counseling to one place and to conduct the admission process as it was earlier.

Secondly, ABVP urged to establish a facility to pay fees at the same spot where students collect their applications rather than the method of going to the State Bank of Mysore and issuing DD. It is learnt that the students who are seeking admission to KPT had to pay Rs 100 to the State Bank of Mysore but had to collect the admission forms from the nodal centers.

In this regard, a memorandum was submitted to the DC on the occasion. The protest was staged in every district across the state. 

Due to the protest, traffic was disrupted for a short while.
