New Delhi, June 19 (IBNS): The crucial Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) meeting on the 2G spectrum allocation scandal ended on Tuesday with Unite Progressive Alliance (UPA) and National Democratic Alliance (NDA) members engaging themselves in a political drama on the issue that whether former Telecom Minister A Raja should depose in connection to the case.

Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Yashwant Sinha said that Prime Minister and the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) should depose in the matter before JPC.

The UPA members said senior ministers belonging to the NDA government should also be called if Raja is asked to depose before it.

The Congress members of the JPC reportedly said former Indian Prime Minister and BJP leader Atal Bihari Vajpayee must also be called to depose.

Touted to be the biggest corruption scandal of independent India, the 2G scam, allegedly masterminded by Raja, pertains to a biased distribution of mobile airwaves and operating licenses, in lieu of kickbacks, to telcos that could have cost the treasury up to Rs 1.76 lakh crore in lost revenue, according to the government's auditors CAG.

The court on May 15 granted bail to Raja who was languishing in the Tihar jail for 15 months in the 2G case.

Raja, who was arrested in 2011 for his alleged role in the scam, had applied for bail in the court on May 9.
