Czech Striker Baros Retires from International Football

Moscow, Jun 22 (IANS/RIA Novosti): Czech striker Milan Baros has retired from international football, national team spokesman Jaroslav Kolar said Friday.

Baros, 30, played in all four of the Czech Republic's games at Euro 2012 before they exited with a 1-0 defeat to Portugal on Thursday.

"After the game, Baros told his teammates that his time representing the country was over," Kolar was quoted as saying by website sport.cz. "Everyone stood up and applauded him for about five minutes."

Baros was top scorer at Euro 2004 with five goals, and collected 93 caps for the Czech Republic since making his debut in 2001, scoring 41 goals in his time with the national team.

His club career has seen him turn out for English sides Liverpool, Aston Villa and Portsmouth, and he now plays for Turkish giants Galatasaray, whom he joined in 2008.
