Mahasweta Devi debuts in ‘Ullas’

Kolkata, June 30 (IBNS): Veteran Bengali author and social activist Mahasweta Devi will make her debut in a Bengali film based on a story penned by her.
The film ‘Ullas’ consists of three stories, set in three different states of India, at three different points of time, brought together by a reporter, whose view connects the series of experience, all of which is written by Mahasweta Devi herself.
Many of Mahasweta Devi’s stories were adopted for films earlier, but for her this one, so far, is the best.
“Many of my stories have been adopted into celluloid earlier, but I think this one is the best. I have acted in the film. This is my first time screen appearance.”
All the three stories of the film depict tribal life and its problem.
The social activist said: “I have felt for the cause of the tribals that is the why I have penned down their life in many of my writings.”
Director Ishwar Chakraborty said: “Mahasweta Devi liked the character in my film and thus, she acted.”
Dadasaheb Phalke Award winning actor Soumitra chatterjee, Biplab Chatterjee, Tapas Pal, Satabdi Roy will also be seen in this film.
