London, Jul 2 (IANS): Singer Elton John has called for an end to violence against gay people following a spate of homophobic attacks in Ukraine.
The "Rocket Man" hitmaker performed at an Aids charity concert in Kiev Saturday.
In between songs he referenced newspaper reports of attacks on the gay community in the country, and made an emotional appeal to stop violence, reports contactmusic.com.
"Recently I read about violence against gay people in Ukraine. Beating up gay people is wrong. This for me does not symbolise Ukraine. I plead with you: Stop the violence against gay people," he said.
