Bajaj Auto's June Sales Down Six Percent


Mumbai, Jul 2 (IANS): Two- and three-wheeler major Bajaj Auto Monday reported a decline of six percent in its overall sales, including exports, in June which stood at 345,162 units down from 366,657 units sold in the corresponding month of 2011.

According to the company, motorcycle sales during the month under review fell by one percent at 318,377 units, down from 322,827 units sold in June, 2011.

Commercial vehicle segment was the worst hit with sales dwindling by 39 percent at 26,785 units from 43,830 units sold in the June 2011.

"Three-wheeler sales to Sri Lanka and Egypt were disrupted. It will normalise from July onwards," the company said.

Exports also took a hit and fell by 18 percent in June at 116,062 units being shipped out as compared to 142,124 units that were shipped out in June 2011.

Overall sales till now in the fiscal marginally slid by one percent at 1,078,971 units from 1,092,815 units sold in corresponding period of 2011-12. Exports during the period under review fell by three percent at 415,645 units down from 427,364 units which were shipped out in the like period of last fiscal.

Motorcycle sales during the period grew by two percent at 982,623 units as against 963,051 units sold in the like period of 2011-12. Commercial vehicles sales were down by 26 percent at 96,348 units from 129,764 units sold in the corresponding period of last fiscal.
