Bangalore, Juy 3 (DHNS): Monsoon picked up pace after a lull across the State on Monday with heavy rain in the coastal areas and Malnad region.

Mangalore recorded a rainfall of 133.6 mm, while Udupi recorded 128.5 mm in the past 24 hours.

Many houses were damaged in Mudbidri, Bantwal, Udupi, Uppur  and Kundapur after trees fell on the roofs.

Strong sea tides were reported in Kaup, Mulur, Uchil and Udyavara and more than 10 trees were uprooted.

Madikeri faced power disruptions as many electricity poles were uprooted due to rain. The district recorded a rainfall of 27.86 mm.

T A Mohammad, a resident of Ayangari, incurred a loss of around Rs 25,000 after his house was damaged partially due to rain. Good rainfall was recorded in Madikeri, Bhagamandala, Virajpet, Hudikere, Srimangala, Ponnampet, Ammathi, Somwarpet, Shanivarasanthe and Shanthalli of Kodagu district. The water level in Harangi reservoir reached 2,814.11 feet compared to 2,859 feet at this time last year.

Heavy rain lashed all over Uttara Kannada district, recording 428.4 mm in the past 24 hours. Water level in the tanks and rivers of the district recorded a substantial increase as a result. Heavy winds with a velocity of 20 km to 35 km per hour were recorded, according to sources in the meteorological department.

The rain has created panic among the residents of the islands in Karwar with the Sharavathi river overflowing. The fishing activities were completely stopped due to the high tides. Honnavar received 77.6 mm rainfall followed by Bhatkal which received 68 mm of rainfall. Kumta received 58 mm, Sirsi 58 mm, Karwar 31 mm and Siddapura 38 mm of rainfall respectively.
