Udupi: Hejamady Resident Drowns While Fishing in Shambhavi River

Udupi, Jul 4:
A resident of Hejamady, near here, who had gone fishing in Shambhavi river drowned on Wednesday July 4.
 
The deceased is 55-year-old Padmanabha Salian, a resident of Chirantipete, Hejamady-Kodi, and husband of Varadakshi Salian, president, Hejamady gram panchayat.

Salian went fishing in a country boat along with his relative Purushottam Suvarna at about 7.30 am on Wednesday.  As he was drawing in the fishing net in the moving boat, he slipped due to heavy gales and torrential rains and drowned.  Suvarna tried to rescue Salian, but in vain.
 
The autopsy was done at Padubidri primary health centre. Padubidri police registered a case in this regard.
 
Kaup MLA Lalaji R Mendon and former state minister Vasant V Salian visited the grieving family and assured to get them compensation from the state, union, and fisheries department at the earliest.
