Udupi: District CITU Protests Demanding Benefits for Unorganized Sector

Udupi, Jul 10: CITU Udupi district organized a protest at the taluk office on Tuesday July 10 at 3.30 pm. CITU members urged that minimum life security should be ensured for labourers who work in the unorganized sector. All employees in the unorganized sector should be assured of at least Rs 10,000 as salary per month.

The 2012 Feb 28 ILO reforms got approved but have not been amended yet though it has been highly recommended by all organizations. Contract laborers should be able to avail PF, gratuity, ESI, and bonus. Compensation should be made available to labourers in case of damages during the working hours.

The demand charter also included immediate measures to implement the provisions of Factory Act, Equal Wages Act, and maternity leave facilities.

The labourers should be facilitated with pension and unemployment wages. Vinodha Kadavoor, Raju Poojari , Dhogu Suvarna, Sanjeeva Nayak, and Dayanath Kotian Prema Ramesh were present at the protest
