Mangalore, Jul 12: Gold and silver ornaments worth Rs 8.2 lac were stolen from a jewellery store on Kinnigoli main road here on Thursday July 12.
The thieves broke open the shutters of Anugraha Jewellers, owned by Pratviraj Acharya, using hydraulic jack. The thieves decamped with 170 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs 4.68 lac and silver worth Rs 3.52 lac, placed in a safe.
The CCTV installed at the jewellery store recorded the theft, and captured footages of the thieves from between 1.58 am to 2.35 am. The CCTV was installed only recently, following the failed burglary attempt at Syndicate Bank, Kinnigoli branch.
The owners of Yugapurusha Building, where the jewllery store is located, had appointed a night watchman, but the thieves were in luck as he was on leave.
The police are looking into other similar thefts using hydraulic jack that took place in Nirmal Jewellery at Suratkal, Durga Jewellery and Padmashree Jewellery at Haleangady a few months ago, in a bid to find a breakthrough related to the case.
Panambur ACP Puttamadayya, Mulky circle inspector Basheer Ahmed and sub-inspector Sunil paid a visit to the crime spot.
Mulky police registered a case in this regard and investigations are under way.

Fri, Jul 13 2012Kinnigoli is very small city and at night it looks like dead place and to say no security movement at night all,a advantage for the thives totally.Only the cctv images and the dog squad will help, while solving the problem at an earliest.Sure the thives looks more active for some time in this area because Syndicate Bank is quite opposite to the Anugraha Jewellery itself.

Thu, Jul 12 2012This and many other similar incidents clearly indicates that the poor security system in Mangalore helps day by day more and more theft and crimes. Security / police force need to be more alert to combat such situation. While Mangalore is developing and the population is increasing, the security system need proper training and special security equipment's same like Europe and gulf countries to make Mangalore more safe.

Thu, Jul 12 2012With the gold prices sky high thieves will go to any measures to steal gold, silver or anything. When the night watch man was on leave the owners should have appointed a substitute. Now most of the thieves will start using the hydraulic jacks.

Thu, Jul 12 2012It looks like people are experienced in using sophisticated tools like Hydraulic Jack some times Welding Cutting Tools. Unnecessary giving extra work for good 'dogs' with out any much benefits. More of Gold Jewellery shops burgled recently.

Thu, Jul 12 2012This may be from Local thieves as Security guard was on leave.Thieves particularly noted the vacation of security and importantly, CCTV images are there to nab them.Due to skyrocketing of the Gold price it is very difficult to secure and safe guard the COMMODITY,GOLD.Those who are in possession of gold either individual or business house need to have extra caution round the clock.
