14,000 Belgian Gamblers Seek Casino Ban

Brussels, Jul 15 (IANS): In what may come as a blow to the casino industry in Belgium, more than 14,000 gambling addicts have filed an official request to the government to ban them from visiting gaming centres, RIA Novosti news agency reported.

Belgium's gambling commission said Saturday that last year only 4,000 people were seeking the ban.

Under a new law that came into effect in January 2011, gambling addicts in the country can also be banned from attending gaming centres and casinos at the request of their doctors or family members.
