Udupi, Jul 15: Students of as many as six polytechnic colleges staged a protest near MLA office on Saturday July 14.

According to the new guidelines given by education board, students who failed in more than four subjects in semesters of the diploma course would not be given admission to the next semester, due to which majority of the students will be forced to lose a year. Students expressed that as per the old rule one can be admitted to next year even after having 10 backlogs and thus saved life of as many as 2000 students.

“The new carry over rule has affected students belonging to working community and others”, said a student. Even after pleading officials several times, they were sent back with negative response.

In this regard students protested in front of the MLA office and a written appeal against new carry over system was submitted to MLA Raghupathi Bhat.

Dr TMA Pai Polytechnic, Kamath Institute of Polytechnic (Kundapur), Indira Shivarao Polytechnic (Kunjibettu), RN Shetty Polytechnic, KPT Polytechnic (Mangalore), were the colleges participated in the protest.
