Mangalore, Jul 19: Two youths Sharif Migdad and Ayub Hussein, who are languishing at a Jeddah jail in Saudi Arabia for the past 11 years on the basis of a false complaint related to an illegal call routing case, are likely to be released within a week or two.

This was informed by Mohammed Hameed Kannur at a press meet here on Thursday July 19.

It may be recalled that Saudi Telecom Company in four different complaints had alleged eight youngsters of making ‘hundi’ (illegal routing) calls, apparently for no mistake of theirs. Of the eight, two are likely to be released.

He said that a committee led by KPCC member M A Gafoor, taluk panchayat member Mohammed Monu along with the parents of Sharif and Ayub went to Delhi and met former union minister Oscar Fernandes and through him the actual facts were explained to the minister of state for external affairs E Ahamed on October 21, 2011.

With the help of Muslim organizations, cooperation was sought from the Indian embassy official Murthy in Saudi Arabia. He said as the fine amount on Ayub Hussein stood at Indian rupees 2.80 lac, the same amount has been paid off, and that the penalty of Rs 28 lac on Sharif will also be paid after collecting money through some Muslim organizations. As the month of Ramadhan is going on, there was concession of 75 percent on the actual penalty amount by the Saudi government, he said.

He added that there are about 13 such people jailed in Jeddah for no fault of theirs, all residents of DK district. "Efforts are being made for their release too," he said.
