Udupi, Jul 25: K Jayaprakash Hegde, Udupi-Chickmagalur MP on Monday July 23 opposed the new regulation in the state level education and said that rural children should be educated in English language.

He was speaking an interactive programme organised by the district consumer forum.

He further said that a uniform pattern of education is justified, but at the same time there is no need to change the medium of instruction from English.

He said that English must be inculcated in the students from class 1. "Today English language is necessary to get a good job in any standard company, and so also to pursue higher education. Rural children fail to face the viva or an interview because of insufficient language skills although they get good scores in their written examination," he said.
 
Hegde said that he has begun talks with the railway department and has forwarded an appeal for the extension of Bangalore-Mangalore night train to Karwar. "The official explanation from railway department giving the reason of a lack of engine is not a convincing answer. Ten compartments to Karwar and seven to Kannur should be considered. He urged railway Yatri Sangha members not to go for ‘Rail Roko’ as he is expecting a positive response from railway department shortly, he added.
 
Another issue discussed was irregularity of the width of NH 66. He assured that he will hold talks with transport minister along with Rajya Sabha MP Oscar Fernandez regarding the problems encountered by the locals in the process of widening of NH 66. He said he will discuss the land acquisition process and also widening of the roads.

Replying to another query on scarcity of drinking water in the summer, the MP said that the central government releases 90 percent funds for drinking water arrangements. It is the responsibility of the local bodies to make proper use of the funds, besides making long term plans. They should work on it before the problem arises and not act on the last moment. Another solution for this is to construct salt water dams built for all rivers from Ullal to Karwar.
 
Another query was that although senior citizens have  an option to get judgments at the earliest it does not happen practically. Hegde assured to hold talks with former union law minister regarding early disposal of cases in courts. He also added that he will ask Veerappa Moily to communicate with the present law minister Salman Khurshid over the plans announced by him. He said cases concerning senior citizens must be disposed off on priority basis.
 
Lastly, he said that there are hundreds of technical and professional institutes, initially granting job assurances but at the end students are misled. "Skilled labourers will be provided training by the central government with job assurance. We are waiting to complete the process and get a sanction for the project soon," he said.
 
There were many complaints which were not under his jurisdiction but he assured to do the maximum by informing the department concerned and take necessary steps.
