United Kingdom: MUKA Hosts Grand Annual Picnic

United Kingdom, Aug 7: The Mangalorean United Konkani Association of Nottingham UK held their annual picnic on Saturday August 4, at Elvaston Castle Country Park in Derbyshire. Despite dire predictions, the day turned out to be sunny with a slight breeze and uplifted the spirits and moods of all who attended.

The event began at 10am with a warm welcome by President Stany Sequeira. He requested everyone to interact with each other, participate in all games and have an enjoyable day. Followed by a short prayer by Flossy Fernandes, all the attendees evoked the God’s blessings on the day, thereafter delicious breakfast was served to all which was arranged by Conrad Aranha.

With the blow of a whistle and the blaring megaphone announcements, various games were conducted for all the children and adults.

The winners are as follows:

Lucky star for kids for the age 4 and under: 1st prize: Aiden Menezes
                                                               2nd prize: Elina Sequeira

Bucket-ball game for age between 4-10 years: 1st prize: Amy
                                                                   2nd prize: Hailey Fernandes

Plate-ball race game for age between 10-18 years: 1st prize – Nelson
                                                                          2nd prize: Jessica Aranha

Above 18 years
Wheelbarrow game for men: 1st prize: Jerald Alvares and Joe D’Souza

Tile race for women: 1st prize: Anitha Alvares; 2nd prize: Irene Rasquinha

Egg catching game for couples was conducted by Valerian Alva, this was special attraction for the day which won by Stany and Anitha Sequeira and Evan and Lydia Lewis.

A sumptuous lunch chicken biriyani and raitha prepared by Anita Menezes, Anita Sequeira and Flossy Fernandes was served for all attended the picnic and enjoyed by all.

After the lunch break groups games were conducted such as passing the bottle, hula-hoop, tug of war and various other games to enrich the team spirit. All the participants participated enthusiastically.

All the games were ably and professionally conducted by cultural secretary Vincent D’Souza and president Stany Sequeira.

At the end of the day vote of thanks was proposed by Deepak Alvares. All the winners were distributed with prizes, and sweets. MUKA executive committee specially thanked Valerian Alva for his generous support and sponsor for this event .The joyful day came to an end with thanksgiving hymn Somiyank Dinvasuya.

MUKA earnestly appreciates the work of members and volunteers who sacrificed their time and energy and put in great efforts to ensure that the picnic was a grand success.
