Cannabis Field Found in Moscow

Moscow, Aug 11 (IANS/RIA Novosti): A big city may not be a prime location for marijuana plantations, but machete-wielding drug police have discovered and hacked down a two-hectare cannabis field in Moscow.

The field in question spanned two hectares in Nekrasovka district and comprised some 640 cannabis plants, Moscow drug police said Friday.

Locals alerted police when the field became a gathering place for weed smokers.

Officers destroyed the two-metre-tall plants in self-described "Latin American style".

The plants would have sufficed to produce 25 kg of marijuana, police said.

They are trying to establish whether the cannabis was wild or cultivated.
