Udupi Aug 16:
The Paniyadi Novel Award ceremony was organized jointly by Udupi Tulu Koota and Karnataka Tulu Sahitya Academy at Hotel Kidiyoor on Wednesday August 15.

The volume of ‘Uppad’ authored by Anshumali bagged the Paniyadi award. The award included cash prize of Rs 8000 and a momentum.

Chandrahas Rai, Karnataka Tulu Academy registrar said that Tulu people should develop interest in promoting the Tulu language. Although the government supports the academy, there is lack of commitment among the tulu people to carry out the culture and promote Tulu language, he stated.

The government has already introduced Tulu as the third optional subject in schools; but in reality and practice there are no one to take up the language in the Tulunadu region. ‘There is a need to develop interest among the students in the language", he said.

He called upon the writers and litterateurs to contribute to Tulu language in a much bigger way. He said there is shortage of good books in Tulu language and only a couple of books are written in this language.

A website is launched by the academy that offers full-fledged information about the language and also about the works and great contributors of the language, he added.
