Guwahati, Aug 26 (IBNS): Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister R Ashoka on Saturday urged to the students and workers of north eastern region to return and assured security in the state, who recently fled over fear of being attacked.

During a discussion with students of Assam and other states of NE held in Guwahati, the Karnataka Deputy CM said that, Bangalore and the state is safe for the NE students and workers.

“There is be need to panic on the security issue,” R Ashoka said.

“We are all of Indian,” he said.

Meanwhile, a team of Karnataka state government led by R Ashoka met Assam CM Tarun Gogoi and discussed on the recent exodus issue and briefed him about the steps taken by the Karnataka state government.

“We have in touch with Assam state government and Railway and would likely to be special train services started from September 1 from Guwahati to take back fled people,” the Karnataka Deputy CM said.

Anti-Northeast people rumours, SMSes and images along with real threats triggered a panic exodus of NE people from Indian cities like Bangalore, Pune and Hyderabad.

Though exodus of northeast Indians from various parts of the country, fearing for their safety, subsided after reassurances of security flowed from various corners, the NE people are still panic-stricken.

The exodus had sparked after at least 78 people were killed in the Assam violence between Bodos and Muslim settlers since July and countless were rendered homeless and sheltered in relief camps.

Five people were killed in fresh violence on Saturday.

Indian authorities have alleged that Pakistani websites used images of people killed in cyclones and earthquakes and passed them off as Muslims killed in violence earlier this year to spread fear of revenge attacks.
