Damascus, Aug 26 (IANS): Unidentified armed groups fired multiple mortar shells in Damascus Sunday, killing two people and injuring others, Xinhua reported, citing pro-government media.
The mortar shells were fired indiscriminately at people in Abbasiyen square, reports said, adding that the competent authorities are hunting down armed groups at the nearby al-Zablatani area.
It was reported that a mortar shell struck a house at the George Khori district, which is also adjacent to the square. Military reinforcements have arrived at the area and gunfire was heard, according to the reports.
