Militant Hideout Busted in Kashmir, Arms Cache Recovered


Jammu, Aug 27 (IANS): A huge cache of arms, ammunition and explosives has been recovered from a militant hideout in Ramban district of Jammu and Kashmir.

In an operation launched Sunday evening in Sarnihal forest of Ramban district, about 180 km north of Jammu, a joint team of the police and Army dealt "a massive blow to militant groups and their efforts to revive militancy in the area", army spokesperson Col. R.K. Palta said Monday.

The recoveries from the remote hideout included pistols, magazines, rifles of different types, under-barrel grenade launcher (UBGL) with grenades, binoculars and AK-47 ammunition.

Col. Palta said the safe house was also heavily stocked with various types of explosives, bombs and improvised explosive devices (IEDs), electric detonators, safety fuses, bombs (in plastic cylinders) and batteries.

Blankets, rice, cooking oil, a few stoves and Pakistani currency were also recovered from the hideout, Col. Palta said.
