Mumbai, Aug 29: William Mascarenhas, a native of Nellikar village in Mangalore, has been elected as the president of the prestigious Maharashtra State Angling Association located at Powai lake in Mumbai.
Maharashtra State Angling Association was formed in the year 1936 and has been protecting the marine life and endangered species living in the Powai lake successfully by various innovative methods with full support of the Municipal Corporation of Greater Mumbai, government of Maharashtra and by the Central Fisheries Authority which is a central government organization.
Maharashtra State Angling Association is promoting a NGO named Naushad Ali Sarovar Samvardhini, named after Late Naushad Ali who was a previous president of Maharashtra State Angling Association. Naushad Ali was an avid angler and had composed many music notes while fishing in Powai Lake as it inspired him throughout his life.
Maharashtra State Angling Association has now grown to be a huge organization that is actively involved in many activities and have managed to keep the waters at Powai lake pollution free by regular removal of weeds like Water Hyacinths, carrying out monthly water analysis, providing 24 hour security and patrolling of the periphery of the lake to prevent stealing of fish. Maharashtra State Angling Association regularly interacts with Angling and environment bodies in India with whom they have reciprocal membership to promote fishing as a sport.
Maharashtra State Angling Association is a nonprofit organization and does a commendable job in a busy city like Mumbai amidst the hustle and bustle and personal and professional commitments of its members and office bearers.
The entire community is proud of William Mascarenhas who hails from a simple place and has been elected as the president of a prestigious body.
