Ben Ali's Former Advisor Held in Tunis


Tunis, Sep 4 (IANS): A former advisor and personal secretary of toppled Tunisian president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali was arrested Monday in Tunis, a media report said.

According to Shems FM, Arbi Aissa, who had an arrest warrant issued against him for embezzlement and abuse of power, was arrested in central Tunis, Xinhua reported.

Ali was toppled by protests which started in December 2010 and led to a moderate Islamist party coming to power in October.

A Tunisian military court has sentenced Ali to a life term in absentia for complicity in the killing of protesters in the greater Tunis area. He has found asylum in Saudi Arabia, has been sentenced to life imprisonment.
