Six Policemen Killed in Russia Attack

Moscow, Sep 6 (IANS): At least six police officers were killed and several injured when unidentified assailants fired at a convoy in southwestern Russia's Ingushetia region, RIA Novosti reported.

The attack took place Wednesday near the village of Dattykh.

A roadside bomb was detonated under the front vehicle and then the convoy came under automatic fire, officials said.

Despite the official end of the federal counter-terrorism operation in Chechnya in April 2009, violence rages on elsewhere. It has spread beyond the Chechen borders to the neighbouring republics of Dagestan, Ingushetia and Kabardino-Balkaria, among others.
