Mangalore: Kinnigoli Businessman Escapes Kidnap Bid

Daijiworld Media Network – Mangalore (VM)

Mangalore, Oct 12: A business man in Kinnigoli had a close shave with kidnappers at Battakodi here on Friday October 12.

Cyprian D’Souza, timber merchant and real estate businessman was returning home after dropping his children to school when the incident took place.

As per Cyprian's statement, four kidnappers in Maruti Omni stopped his Scorpio near his house. While one of them, who spoke in Tulu, opened the Scorpio's door and got into the passenger seat, two others opened the rear door and slipped in, with an intention to tie up Cyprian. The person in the front seat told Cyprian to hand over his mobile phone, to which the latter replied that he had left it in his house. One of the kidnappers took out a gun and aimed at Cyprian's head.

Realizing the gravity of the situation, Cyprian at once opened his car door and jumped out of the vehicle. He ran some distance shouting for help.

Meanwhile, the car which was in neutral gear began to move backwards. The kidnappers too jumped out and when they saw locals coming to Cyprian's rescue, fled away in their Maruti car towards Mulky. In the process, Cyprian was injured in his leg, but escaped from the kidnappers.

On interrogation, Cyprian told the police that the kidnappers were unknown to him and that they were around 28-30 years of age.

Speaking to Daijiworld Cyprian said that he has received threat calls on the internet demanding ransom. He also said that he failed to note down the number of the kidnappers' car.

Cyprian had received a threat call a year ago from an unknown person who claimed himself an associate of underworld don Ravi Poojary.

Cyprian owns a mill in Battakodi and few furniture shops at Kateel, Kinnigoli, Padubidri Guttakaadu, Damaskatte. He is also into real estate business and owns land in various places.

Basheer Ahmed, Mulky circle inspector took charge of the investigation and efforts are on to trace the culprits.

A case has been registered in the Mulky police station.

Law and order issue. Our govt officials are realy useless who is good for nothing. Common man has to suffer. One has to work so hard to make a living and luck favour and becomes succeful then one has to share the hard earned money to these lazzie evils who is waiting to kidnap, or torture in absence of giving hard earned money. I feel very ashamed of the Indian govt who is not even bothered to take care of local issues. I am very worried if they can't able to domestic issue then how they are able to handle wars.

Why we have army, navies just to pay salaries from tax payers hard earned money or use them effectively to solve internal problems with thier experties. If police force can't solve these pity issues then use the other source like army or airforce, navy personel to find a better solution to stop terrorism flowing from internationaly to metro cities and now smaller towns. Come on Govt if you have little shame tackle this terrorism issue and have a strong law to punish such criminals. Sentnece them longer and lead a example no one dare to do it again.

Not surprised at all. It happens under BJP rule. No law, no police, but only many many Vedikes and 'Dals' who enjoy life on others money.

Daylight attempt to kidnap a heavily built man right near his house in a remote area shows the daring and brazenness of the kidnappers, sure they are backed by some prominent extortionist!!

Extorting money from big businessmen is very common in Mumbai, even doctors and other professionals are spared! Now this disease has spread to once calm and peaceful decay!!

This is actually a big price the rich pay for their richness and abundance!! Such rich people should keep a licenced weapon with them all the time, and take extra care of their near and dear ones!

As somebody has mentioned, 8 out of 10 of those who get such extortion calls pay out to avoid risking any threat to their lives!!

In a way the steep rise in property prices, betelnuts, and the black money involved in these businesses has invited these kind of people into the fray!!

It is a lesson to all the rich that they should mostly keep a low profile and not flaunt their wealth and assets to avoid confrontation with these dangerous elements!!

Thank God, this gentleman had a great reflex action and jumped out in the nick of time!!

Hope and pray that he comes out of the emotional trauma soon!!

THIS IS AGAIN FAILURE OF BJP ADMINISTRATION AS THE KIDNAPERS ARE ROAMING AROUND OPENLY !!!

    1) They are sometimes coming as Protector of Indian Culture
    2) They are some time appearing as pub attackers
    3) Sometimes as Gangsters
    4) Sometimes as murderers/rapist
    5) Sometimes as kidnapers

Who is responsible for this. people you should think twice this time before you vote !!!!

A timely escape for Cyprian D'souza, Thanks to 'GOD'.  Kinnigoli is a very small city and a kidnap Bid,it is hard to belive! and is very disturbing factor too!.Police action in this case looks very remote and less hope!,you provide them some evidence and here it is none! You help yourself is the policy sometime it applies !. Anyway a fearful life one to live to an extent. Fixing some CCTV Cameras in some required junctions sure a helping hand in disguise to the police Dept and to the society too.

Now rich people, days are not far off when we have to shift our family to GREEN ZONE. You might have heard of this type of Zone in Iraq. Unemployment, poverty, dirty movies, sex craving, laziness, increase in divide between have's and have-not's, mafia controls, corruption in law enforcing agencies, imitating western culture, religious hatred, political ambitions, and so on are root causes of these kind of incidents. Everyone wants money and of course without effort. The incident reminds me of a BBC interview with one of the Iraqui citizen when he said ransom is cheaper in villages of Iraq than Bagdhad!! The kidnapping is so common in Iraq that people have come to terms with it. Every country because of eradication of moral values is fast moving towards lawlessness just like Iraq or Afghanistan. Now time has come to think of a system where we can bring back the lost moral values. Think something new by just coming out of this Selfish world.

The locals have also heard that there were totally 3 person who got the threat calls a year ago. Two of them paid the ransom out of fear. Cyprian was the only one who did not pay. If our Police were efficient, this would not have happened. All the three businessmen were successful because of their hard work. Is our police force handicapped in front of such gangsters?

Cypri, you are a simple man as all know, but have your personal safety, as the readers mentioned here. You can even apply to get a license to have a gun. Nalayak MP’s are having guns now a days, why can’t a good citizen?

About 12-13 years ago similar incident took place at Damarskatte near kinnigoli, and the Culprits have not been caught till today. At that time the victim was a rich Rice Mill owner of Sacheripete, and when he was coming back from Mangalore with his Lakhs of Rs. business collection, the culprits followed n Maruti from Bunder Mangalore, and waylaid him near kinnigoli, looted money and also brutally killed him with similar pistol, and tried to take his car also, but culprits were not accustomed to driving such costly brand of Car and so they hit a compound nearby, left the car and fled in their Maruti omni and they are not caught even after 12 years.
It must be the same Gang again now. Because that old Gang also spoke Tulu with the Victim Kamath.

    To
    Dear Businessmen,

Have a trained dog at home. Since you can afford, you can have two Dobber man dogs. Because they are very strong, furious and intelligent compare to any other breeds. They quickly notice the danger and alert you before enemy's attack and whenever you travel alone or at night take them in your car for your safety. Nowadays you can't trust human guards too. but in case of dogs, yes you can. and forever. Like wise you can save precious life for your dear ones.

I think hereon every business man should keep 2 guards and a Dobber man dog wherever they travel for their safety. We can't trust our Police or judicial system. poor police can't tackle this matter alone.Even if they caught they will come out soon. Our ministers have police or commandos for their safety. So they don't bother common people's safety and so on & on India is shinning

Some days back attack on life of Mumbai Hotelier BR Shetty and now Businessman Cyprian D'Souza in Mangalore! Crime rate has risen to alarming level in and around Mangalore! What was happening in Rogue states, is the state of affairs in once known safe state. In this rate if crime level goes businessmen and people may find the need to engage own guards/people to survive and make kidnappers job difficult.

The trend of metro cities (ransom/Robbery/Kidnap/Hafta/murder)reached to small cities of DK ....is a reckoning point. What is DK police doing as we are hearing murders/Kidnap attempt/theft/rape etc etc in daily news of DK!!!?
