Mumbai: Gamaka Vachana and Lecture Organized by Mumbai University

Mumbai Oct 20: A special guest lecture and a Gamaka Vachana programme was held at Kalina campus in the Kannada department, Ranade bhavan, Santacruz East Vidhyanagar.

The programme was organized by the Mumbai University Kannada department’s Kannada Kallika Kendra in collaboration with Kannada development authority Bangalore on Thursday.

President of Kannada Sahithya Parishath Maharashtra division, renowned Yakshagana artist, Degree Yakshagana committee president HLB Rao spoke on ‘Uniqueness of the Yakshagana art’ and veteran journalist, Gamaka Scholar MA Jayaram Roy spoke on ‘Pampa Bharatha Karna’ in the lecture programme.

MA Jayaram Roy said that only Kumaravysa explained the character of Duryodhana in the state of Navarasa, Pampa narrated  beautifully about Karna in his poetry.

Pampa showed sympathy for Karna towards his condition in Mahabharatha, Karna lost his life because offering quality he had.  Roy spoke about the unique way in which Pampa narrated about Karna in his poetry. 
 
"In Yakshagana if there is no humorous theme it would not be interesting, the comedy or humor should be based on the concept", said HBL Rao.

HOD of Kannada department JN Uppadyayya welcomed and presented key note address, Jyothi compered the programme.  Poornima Shetty delivered the vote of thanks.

Marriappa Natekar, Shivaraj J, Ansuya Galagalli, Niranjan CS, Sarojini Thare, Shamala Prakash, Rama Udupa, Sugandha Sathyamurthi were present at occasion.
