Mumbai, Oct 22: The 2012 Karanthotsava celebration was held at Samarasa auditorium of Karnataka Sangh in Matunga (West) on Saturday October 20.
The celebration was jointly organized by Sadanand Suvarna Cultural Organization and Karnataka Sangh.
Dr Narendra Rai Derla, professor, writer was the chief guest. He offered floral tribute to the portrait of Dr Karanth.
Speaking on the occasion, he said, “Dr Karanth is a true model for all the writers across the country. His books are based on nature.”
Dr Rai said that Dr Karanth was an intellectual and environmentalist who tremendously contributed to the art and culture of Karnataka. His contributions are commendable, he added.
“The main aim of the celebration is to spread the contributions of Dr Karanth to the next generation”, said Sadanand Suvarna, director of cultural foundation. He also lauded the people for gathering in large numbers.
On the occasion of Karanthotsava, drawing competition was organized for the school children. Dr Narendra Rai Derla distributed prizes to the winners.
The programme began with the prayer service by Sushila Devadiga, performer at Kannada department, Akashavani Mumbai.
Dr GD Joshi welcomed the gathering. Gopal Thrasi compered and Dr Bharath Kumar delivered the vote of thanks.
Professor Shiva Billawa, treasurer, Dr Vyasarao Ninjoor, president of Karanthotsav Samithi, S K Sunder, secretary of cultural foundation among others were present.
