Cyclone Nilam: Sailor from Udupi Among 15 Rescued from Stranded Ship

Udupi, Nov 1: Joy Herman Corda, a native of Kalathur here, was one among the 15 sailors who were rescued from the vessel Pratibha Cauvery that ran aground in the cyclone Nilam that hit the Tamil Nadu coast on Wednesday October 31.
The vessel, with 37 crew on board ran aground near Elliott’s Beach in South Chennai, about 200 metres away from the shore.
One crew member drowned after a life boat carrying him and his 21 colleagues capsized in choppy waters, while 15 others were rescued with the help of several agencies including Navy and local fishermen on Wednesday. Six others are still missing a search operation is on. The ship belonged to Mumbai-based Pratibha Shipping Company.
Among those rescued was Joy (26), son of George and Leena Corda from Kalathur. Joy and his two other brothers, who are in Muscat, are engineers. He did his engineering in Mumbai.
He was shifted to Fortis hospital and kept under observation. He is now out of danger. However, all his documents and money have been destroyed in the incident.
Joy has been with the Prathibha Cauvery vessel since 10 months. This is his third cruise as a sailor.

Kasargod, Nov 1: Among the six missing sailors of Prathibha Cauvery vessel that ran aground off the Chennai coast on Wednesday, two are from Kasargod.
Joman Joseph
The missing persons have been identified as Joman Joseph (23), resident of Badiyadka and P C Krishnachandra (22), resident of Ambika Nagar in Uduma.
Joseph has been working in the ship since one-and-a-half years while Krishnachandra had recently joined.
