36 Fresh Dengue Cases; Total 1,161 in Delhi


New Delhi, Nov 4 (IANS): Dengue cases in the capital rose to 1,161, with 36 people testing positive for the mosquito-borne disease Sunday, shows civic agency data.

While 36 cases were reported from three municipal corporations, one was reported from the railway, official data revealed.

Of the new cases, 14 were reported each from the East Delhi and North Delhi Municipal Corporation areas, and the remaining seven from the South Delhi Municipal Corporation (SDMC) area, the data showed.

Since dengue hit the capital this year, South DMC continues to report the largest number of cases, 440 so far this year.

Two people have died of dengue-related complications in the national capital this year.

In 2011, a total of 829 cases were reported. This year, 1,161 cases have already been reported, and the number of those infected continues to rise, even as the temperature has begun to drop.

In 2010, a total of 5,649 dengue cases were recorded in Delhi.
