Udupi: Fisherman Dies After Falling into Sea

Udupi, Nov 6: A poor fisherman, who was the breadwinner of his family, died as harsh waves rocked the boat and he fell into the sea at Padubidri on Monday November 5.

The deceased has been identified as Sanjeeva Kotian (55). He is also a member of Nadipatna Kairampani fund.

As per the information received, a group of 9 people left in a boat for fishing. While returning to the  shore after fishing in the evening, the boat was struck by strong waves, as a result Sanjeeva lost control and fell out of the boat.

The other fisherman soon went to his rescue and took him to a nearby hospital, but he died on the way.

The deceased is survived by his wife, two daughters and two sons.

A case has been registered at Padubidri police station.

    The Govt. should make it mandatory for fishermen to wear life jackets like in the west & Japan.
