Forget the Past, Prepare for 2014 Polls, Rahul Tells Amethi

Amethi, Nov 9 (IANS): Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi Thursday urged the people of Amethi, his parliamentary constituency, to "forget the past and move on".

Talking to residents of Amethi, party workers and supporters, Rahul Gandhi asked them to gear up for general elections due in two years and strengthen the Congress party for the development of their area and the country.

Asking workers to keep off factionalism and learn from past mistakes, he urged them to prepare for the 2014 Lok Sabha polls.

"Jo guzar gaya, usey bhool jayiye aur nayi taqat se 2014 ke liye maidan mein utar aaiye (Forget the past and descend on the field with new strength for 2014)," Rahul Gandhi told a gathering at K.C. Inter College here.

He said organisational changes would soon be effected in the party and due importance would be given to people who worked at the grassroots level.

He also urged Congress workers to fan out in the villages and tell people about the union government's welfare schemes.

When asked about problems such as poor roads, power crisis and law and order, Rahul Gandhi said these were looked after by the state government and it was being run by a different party.

He said while Congress worked for the people, others took the credit.

He said money provided by the union government for National Rural Health Mission and Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme were not properly utilised, hampering development of the state.

Rahul Gandhi was joined by his sister Priyanka Gandhi Vadra at the Rajiv Gandhi Charitable Trust office. They met 150 women trained in traditional 'chikankari' and candle-making.

Priyanka promised the women that she would come to Amethi regularly.
