Ajman, Nov 9: The fourth Annual Scientific Meeting 2012 was held on November 5 and November 6 at the Gulf Medical University, Ajman.
This year the scientific meeting has offered a bouquet of scientific papers in the form of oral and poster presentations represented by the clinical, biomedical, dental, physical therapy and pharmaceutical sciences faculty and students.
Professor Jayadevan Sreedharan, Chairman of the Scientific Program Committee said that the Scientific Meeting was organized with the intention to promote research among clinicians, academicians and students of Gulf Medical University. “At this juncture I remember with great pride and pleasure that the proceedings of the third Annual Scientific Meeting was accepted as one of the sources of input of the Index Medicus for the WHO Eastern Mediterranean Region (IMEMR)”, he added.
The theme of this year’s meeting “Current trends in healthcare:Prevention to Treatment”covered a wide range of disciplines in the education, healthcare and research.
The major tracks included were clinical medicine, dental sciences, pharmaceutical sciences, physical therapy in clinical practice, health professions education and student research.
The proceedings released on the opening day commemorated the event with the 86 contributions; Part I includes articles being presented in the oral sessions and Part II with articles presented in the poster sessions, which provided a cross section of the different tracks.
“I view these proceedings as a means of disseminating information unique to the UAE that may not always be available in other publications. I hope that the articles contained in these proceedings will be helpful to both researchers and academicians in improving the treatment and prevention strategies especially in the local situations”, said professor Jayadevan Sreedharan.
Provost professor Gita Ashok Raj gave away six of the best oral paper awards and five best poster awards to the winners of the event. Professor Jayadevan Sreedharan proposed the vote of thanks.
While extending his heartfelt thanks on behalf of the scientific program committee to the founder president Thumbay Moideen for his encouragement and support in hosting the prestigious event, professor Jayadevan also thanked Provost professor Gita Ashok Raj, all the Scientific Program Committee members, reviewers, session chairs for keeping the conference on track, Deans and faculty of all colleges for their involvement, Health Communications Divisions, IT and promotions for their technical and operational assistance in organizing the scientific event and release of the proceedings, Dr IG Premadasa for meticulously editing the document.
