Mumbai, Nov 14: “Those who earn should help the poor. In this way business profits can be improved”, said Harry Rebello, managing director of Caravan Transporters, Chembur.
He spoke after distributing scholarships to the poor students on the occasion of the first anniversary of Konkani Welfare Association, recently held in the auditorium of Our Lady of Good Council Church, Sion East.
Fr Leslie Dominic D’Cunha, former parish priest of the church initiated the programme.
St Jude Church, Jerimeri, parish priest Fr Nelson Saldanha, businessmen Cyril Tauro, Divo Konkani Weekly convenor, Lawrence Coelho, Secular Citizen English Weekly Convener, Suzan L Coelho and Airport Junior College vice principal Philomena C lobo were the guests of honour.
As a part of the entertainment programme, Konkani Musical Nite by the renowned singers, Ivan Sequeira, Nefy Pradhan, Antony Tauro, John Mascarehnas, Betty Naaz and others, was performed under the guidance of music director Benjamin Miranda. The musical evening was compered by Abrahan Clement Lobo.
Flora D’Souza, John, Felix D’Souza Malvani and Gregory entertained the gathering.
Association president Dulcine Furthado, treasurer Moli Harry Sequeira, co-treasurer Riyan Aranha, advising committee members, advocate David L D’Souza and Hilda D’Silva welcomed the guests with flower bouquets.
Committee members Peter D’Souza, Helen D’Souza, Rita Aranha, John Sequeira, Hilda D’Souza, Christopher Fernandes and Hilda Rego were present.
Vice president Leena Pinto welcomed. Convener Harry R Sequeira Mooduferar delivered the key note address.
