Hippo Bites off Girl's Arm in Burundi


Bujumbura (Burundi), Nov 16 (IANS): A hippopotamus has bitten off a teenage girl's arm in Burundi when she went to fetch water from a river, a radio station reported Thursday.

The incident took place Wednesday after she went to collect water from Rusizi river near her village in Cibitoke province, 70 km from Burundian capital Bujumbura.

The girl was rushed to a hospital, Xinhua quoted the Bonesha FM station of the East African nation as saying.

Rukana villagers fetch water from a nearby river after the water pipes were damaged due to laying of a road.
