Corbett, Dudhwa Open for the Season


Lucknow, Nov 16 (IANS): Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and her two children were amongst the first visitors to the Corbett national park that has opened up for visitors after a break, officials said.

Along with Corbett, which falls in the state of Uttarakhand, the Dudhwa national park in Uttar Pradesh also opened Thursday for for wildlife lovers, visitors and tourists.

On day one itself, the famous Corbett national park got booked till Nov 30 with foreign tourists making a beeline to be in the wildlife park. An estimated 140 tourists reached the park on the first day, an official said.

The park is known for elephant sightings at Dhakala and Ram Ganga river, where crocodiles are also a big draw for visitors.

Uttar Pradesh's lone national park Dudhwa also opened for the season amid the chanting of hymns. Park officials expect to do good business in winters as bulk bookings have already been done this year.

The tourism and forest department have come together to make the best of wildlife tourism. Several packages are being given to lure visitors.

Several dozen visitors camped in the national park and took gypsy and elephant rides.

Officials say with the festive season of Diwali over, more guests are likely to pour in. This would have a fair presence of politicians and other VVIPs who go to these national parks for holidays.
