Mangalore: Despite HC Stay on FIR, Naveen Soorinje Handcuffed

Mangalore, Nov 21 (DHNS): The District Armed Reserve (DAR) police personnel handcuffed scribe Naveen Soorinje while taking him to the court on Tuesday.

The handcuffed Naveen was taken from jail to the court and back to the jail.

Expressing displeasure over handcuffing, Naveen’s advocate Sathish Bantwal said that “Supreme Court has given direction in Prem Shankar Shukla case that an undertrial should not be handcuffed. In case, if an undertrial had made any attempt to escape, then permission should be obtained from the court before handcuffing an undertrial. My client had not made any attempt to escape. He was handcuffed to insult him in public,” advocate  said.

The copy of the stay order issued by the High Court, on FIR against Soorinje, was produced before the Third JMF court on Tuesday.

Here the insult is not to Naveen but to the police of Mangalore and the politicians of Mangalore. Naveen did his duty. You can not expect a banana tree to give Mangoes. But I suppose the Politicians in Karnataka expect that. If every body did their duty India would not get the name of the dirtiest country in the world.

It's a blatant violation of the rights of the accused or the undertrial. Is there a rule of law? Can the legal experts rush to the help of Mr. naveen for a cause?

Top police officials are totally ignorant of law. In each police station there should be Job description list stating how to treat the accused. First of all the police donot know the meaning of FIR. Once I asked a police guy about FIR and he quickly replied False Information Record.Thank God our courts are doing wonderful Job and provide justice.
