Karkala, Nov 23: In a tragic road mishap, businessman Dayanand Hegde died after his bike collided head-on with a car, in front of Hebri forest department office, on Thursday November 22.

Dayanand Hegde, resident of Shivapur was the former president of APMC, Karkala taluk.

The accident occurred when Dayanand was plying towards Shivapur, when the two vehicles collided head-on. Dayanand was critically injured after he was thrown off his bike.

The locals rushed him to Manipal hospital but he died on the way.

The driver of the car hailing from Soraba fled from the spot leaving the car behind. It is learnt that the car belongs to a member of Shimoga zilla panchayat.

Dayanand who belonged to Shivapura Yedde family was involved in earthmovers business. He was a member of BJP and also an active social worker. He is survived by his wife and two daughters.

A case has been registered in Hebri police station.
