Bangalore, Nov 23: UPA Government at the Centre is sensitive to the views of the people of Kolar and has not taken any decision for dumping nuclear waste from Koondamkulam N-Plant in Tamil Nadu in the Kolar Gold Fields area belonging to the Bharat Gold Mines Limited (BGML).
This clarification has been issued by Union Minister of State for Micro, Small and Medium Industries Minister K H Muniyappa, who hails from the Kolar district, from New Delhi on Friday.
Muniyappa, who represents the Kolar Lok Sabha constituency, termed the newspaper reports with regard to the dumping of the N-Waste from the Koondamkular plant in the KGF was ''totally baseless.”
The Union Minister has appealed to the people not to believe unfounded and baseless newspaper reports or rumour-mongers.
''We are committed to protecting the interests of the people and ensuring their safety,” he said.
The Union minister has in his statement clarified that he personally met Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh following newspaper reports and the scare created among the local people and apprised him of the situation.
Muniyappa also clarified that he had requested the Prime Minister to immediately intervene and take an early decision on reviving the BGML.
Pointing out that the Supreme Court was seized of the issue pertaining to the revival of BGML, Muniyappa made it clear that the Prime Minister had assured that the Union Mines Minister Dinsha Patel and Law and Justice Minister Ashwani Kumar have been hold joint consultations along with him to resolve the issue.
The ministerial meeting on revival of BGML would be held in New Delhi on Novemebr 26, he said.
