Karnataka BJP Hit by Another Land Grab Scandal

Mysore, Nov 26 (IANS): In yet another instance of allegations of illegal land deals against Karnataka's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), a legislator and a state minister now face charges of grabbing land in this city.

Legislator G. Madhusudan, who has accused Medical Education Minister S.A. Ramdas of trying to grab over 400 acres of land at the foothills of Chamundi hills in the city, is now facing charges of getting a civic amenities site illegally.

Madhusudan, a member of the legislative council, has been demanding action against Ramdas, who has denied the charges and offered to quit the post if proved otherwise.

On Monday, a civic group in this city, about 130 km from the state capital Bangalore, told reporters here that Madhusudan himself was involved in getting at a throwaway price over three acres of land for a trust he heads.

M. Lakshmana, founder of Association of Concerned and Informed Citizens of Mysore, claimed that the market value of the land was around Rs.45 crore but Madhusudan got it for the trust paying around Rs.700,000.

Madhusudan denied that he was involved with the trust but acknowledged that he had recommended to the government that the land be allotted to the trust.

He said he would give a detailed response at a formal press meet in the city Tuesday.

On Sunday, Ramdas told reporters here that he had written to Chief Minister Jagadish Shettar and Deputy Chief Minister K.S. Eshwarappa to order a probe into Madhusudan's charges against him.

Madhusudan claimed that Ramdas was helping the former royal family of Mysore get around 2,000 acres of land around Chamundi hills in return for getting 400 acres of it for himself.

The minister said he would wait till Dec 2 for the government to order the probe. If it was not done, he would move the high court seeking a directive to the government for an inquiry.

Ramdas and Madhusudan join a list of over 20 party legislators, several of whom are ministers, fighting land grab cases or facing charges of illegal land deals.

The BJP has 119 members in the 225-member assembly and 44 members in the 75-member legislative council.

Topping the list of party legislators fighting illegal land deals cases is BJP's first chief minister in the south B.S. Yeddyurappa, who has announced plans to quit the party and launch a regional outfit Dec 9.

The state assembly elections are due next May. The BJP came to power for the first time in the state in the May 2008 assembly polls.

What a sorry state we are in. One after another we see almost every politician's hand in some scandal or other. The only way to clena this up is to kick the entire team out and get new blook of young highly educated citizens.
I just received a flash international news from Toronto, Canada - The Mayor of Toronto, Rob Ford was involved in recommending an amount of $ 3150 for a football team that he was training. Apparently, he went against the laws and got fired an hour earlier just for $ 3150 forget lakhs and crores! Can we take an example from this - may be in another 500 years??

Dear SHARATH sir, those corrupt MLAs/Ministers are in need of power to tackle the trouble which may ahead for them due for scandals.I am wondering being party with difference,BJP,first timer in office in Karnataka which is said to be SOUTH INDIA's only BJP govt indulged in such a wholesale land grabbing and corruptions is a surprise and unbelievable. It is a fact most of the Bangalore based MLAs are one or other way hit by scandals!Just wait after change of guard in V. Soudha, there could be a COMMISSION might be constituted in which you could see names of MLAs!!!!!In 4.5 years of tenure BJP legislators did tremendous job in grabbing state wealth.Let us assume Congress is a corrupt party but how could on the earth believe RSS based BJP lawmakers/leaders are more Corrupt than Congress?I am not divulging this but LOkayukta and other NGOs are following all these senseless cases under RTA. RamaSwamiCommission, constituted for Land grabbing episodes of real estate Mafia/politicians around Bangalore, already submitted report during BSY tenure which was kept in the freezer!!!Very colorful political activities ahead in Karnataka which could be fodder to media and time pass for people like us.

Dear ISMAIL.K.PERINJE, ji...there is no use if these legislatures knock the other parties role. Because their report card is not impressive to match the bigweights of your other party. By far I guess only the Reddy's & Yeddi could get merit seat by Congress and their application accepted due to their good performance in last 4 years. To keep up to the saidhanthika Principle party, one has to atleast achive 1 lakh crore mark. This 50-16K crore marks are not even enough to be eligble to collect the application for your other party.

Most of the MLAs and Ministers of present Govt of BJP in Karnataka are Land grabber around cosmopolitan cities like Bangalore/Managalore.Even DVS has 5-6 houses and sites across Karnataka as per media report.Because of BJP versus(BJP) KJP all corrupt dealings and land grabbing will leak out one on one in the days ahead.Unfortunately,if BJP forced to wind up operations in Karnataka, then GUv will rule 2-3 months and we can expect further scandals of ex MLAs and ministers once GUV take charge.Given the situation BJP passing @ very bad weather and that's why most of the legislatures are in touch with various parties.
