No Information on Taliban Planning Attacks, say Hyderabad Police

Hyderabad, Nov 30 (IANS): Hyderabad police have not received any report from intelligence agencies about Taliban planning attacks in the city to avenge Ajmal Kasab's execution, said Police Commissioner Anurag Sharma.

The police chief, however, said they were prepared to tackle any such threat. "We are alerting our forces and will intensify patrolling as a part of precautionary measures," he told reporters Thursday.

"We have not got any such report from any intelligence agency. However, we remain alert to any such threat," the police chief said when asked to comment on some media reports that fighters of a Pakistani Taliban faction were holed up in Amritsar and Hyderabad to carry out attacks to avenge Kasab's execution.

The reports quoted Ahmed Marwat, a spokesman for Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan's Jundullah group as saying that they would avenge the death of Kasab within a month.

Kasab, a convict of Mumbai terror attack, was hanged in Pune's Yerawada Jail on Nov 21.
