Ajman, Nov 30: Under the patronage of His Highness Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, Member of the Supreme Council, UAE and Ruler of Ajman, Gulf Medical University (GMU) honored the achievements of 92 of its illustrious graduates at the Ninth Convocation Ceremony held on the November 28 in the Al Zawraa Ball Room, Ajman Kempinski Hotel and Resort, Ajman.
Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi congratulated the graduates for their academic achievement. “This event signifies that each of the students has demonstrated the required intellectual ability and the personal qualities of hard work, perseverance and accomplishment to attain a special mark of recognition”, he said.
The grand ceremony was also graced by distinguished members of the Ruling Family, Humaid Mohammad Obaid Al Qattami - Minister of Education; Hamad Taryam Al Shamsi - Director of Ajman Medical District; Dr Amin Al Amiri – assistant under secretary for medical practice & licence (CEO), MOH – Dubai; Sheikh Dr Mohamed Bin Saqer Al Qassimi – director, Sharjah Medical District.
Addressing the gathering Thumbay Moideen, founder president of Gulf Medical University, Board of Governors (GMU) congratulated the successful graduates on the solemn occasion. While commending the graduates on their excellence in academics, he wished them continued success and assured all support whenever required. “May I remind you my beloved students that you are the ambassadors of this institution and you must live up to the values and ideals of your alma mater, Moideen added.
While thanking Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Sultan Al Nahyan, president of UAE and Ruler of Abu Dhabi for his leadership, Moideen also thanked. Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, member of Supreme Council and Ruler of Ajman for his constant and invaluable support to him and the University.
Moideen expressed his sincere gratitude to the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research (MOHESR) for their extensive support and guidance for the university’s success. He also thanked the Ministry of Health, Mafraq Hospital who have rendered extensive support to the students of GMU in their clinical trainings.
Out of a total of 92 graduates who received their graduation certificates from Sheikh Humaid Bin Rashid Al Nuaimi, 69 graduates from the College of Medicine (MBBS) comprising of 22 male and 47 female graduates, 14 graduates from College of Allied Health Sciences (BPT) comprising of 02 male and 12 female graduates and 04 graduates from Master of Science in Clinical Pathology (MS CP), 3 graduates from Master of Toxicology (MS Tox) and 02 graduates from Masters in Public Health (MPH) received their graduation certificates during the high profile ceremony.
The graduates from the MBBS stream have successfully completed their training, thanks to the love and support of their families and the faculty in the colleges during the first and second years in GMU, the third year in GMC Hospital, Ajman, the fourth year in Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Hospital, Ajman and UAQ Hospital, Umm Al Quwain and the fifth year in Mafraq Hospital, Abu Dhabi.
GMU prides itself to notify that 46 students in Ministry of Health Hospitals, 03 in Dubai Health Authority, 14 in Health Authority of Abu Dhabi, 02 in Bahrain, 01 each in Qatar, India, Botswana and France (outside U.A.E.) have successfully completed their internship.
It is heartwarming to note that currently many GMU graduates are successfully serving far and wide both in UAE and outside the country, especially in USA, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, India, Pakistan, Bangladesh and the neighboring GCC countries.
Dr Afra Abdul Wahid Ali and Nora Ahmed Sultan have been declared as the best outgoing students from the MBBS and BPT streams respectively. B Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen – Chairman, BA Group, India gave away the best outgoing student’s awards.
The grand event was also attended by Sheikh Dr Majid Bin Saeed Al Nuaimi, Chairman – Ruler’s Court, Ajman, UAE, distinguished guests, dignitaries representing various ministries, government departments, embassies, consul general’s stationed in UAE and abroad, B Ahmed Hajee Mohiudeen – Chairman, BA Group, India, professor Ed Peile - professor Emeritus (Medical Education) University of Warwick, editor in chief, Education for Primary Care, UK, Dr. Ms. Zulekha Daud, Zulekha Hospitals, Members of the Board of Governors and the Academic Council, Provost, Deans, other senior university officials, faculty members, students and their family members as well as the members of the media.
The ceremony concluded with the Provost of GMU, professor Gita Ashok Raj taking the students through the graduation oath.
