Mangalore: Father Muller College to Host Programme on Autism Awareness

Mangalore, Dec 3: "Father Muller College of Speech and Hearing is set to host a one-day Awareness Programme on 'Autism Spectrum Disorders: Early Intervention for young Children with ASD- the Com DEALL model' on December 7 in the college auditorium", said professor Akhilesh P M, Principal, Muller College of Speech and Hearing.

He was speaking to the media at the Press club on Monday December 3 at 10:45 am.

Communication is impaired in those who have speech, language and hearing disorders. Often it goes unnoticed and unattended at the appropriate age due to lack of awareness about the disorder.

One of the communication disorder is Autism. Causes of Autism are presumed to be due to genetic, cognitive and neural levels deficts.

"One way of addressing this issue is by creating awareness. Hence we are organizing this Awareness programme in association with Communucation DEALL Trust, Bangalore" he said.

"Communication 'DEALL' is a renowned organization started by Dr Prathibha Karanth, a pioneer in the filed of Speech-Language Pathology with over 40 years of experience. Dr Prathibha Karanth will be the resourse person for the programme", he added.

Narasimhan, Head Of Department, Physiotherapy was also present on the occasion.
