250 Held in Dubai for Breaking the Law


Dubai, Dec 7 (IANS/WAM): The Dubai municipality in cooperation with Dubai police has apprehended 250 street vendors, beggars and car-washers for violating the law.

Obeid Ibrahim Marzouqi, a senior official at the municipality, said the action taken in November also resulted in the seizure of several low-quality goods and pirated CDs.

As many as 140 street vendors, 85 beggars, 23 car-washers and two butchers and fish cleaners were caught. A total of 522 counterfeit products were seized. These included 250 ready-made garments, 263 food items, eight alcoholic drinks and over two tonnes of contaminated food.
