New Delhi, Dec 19 (IANS): Even as the gang-rape of a woman in a moving bus continues to trigger outrage and protests across the country, Delhi Chief Minister Shiela Dikshit said Wednesday such incidents should not be "politicised".
"Such issues should not be politicised. That's what we are trying to avoid. We will gain nothing by politicising it ... If we are really concerned and feel the pain and anguish, we should do away with it," Dikshit told reporters.
On letter United Progressive Alliance chairperson Sonia Gandhi had written on the issue to the prime minister and the home minister, Dikshit said: "She (Sonia Gandhi) has stated great anguish that this has happened and said that even as she understands that the police comes under the jurisdiction of union home ministry, she has said whatever can be done (by the Delhi government) it should be deliberated upon, so that such things do not occur again."
The chief minister said she had received the exact details of the incident and that the case would be tried in a special fast-track court.
Earlier Wednesday, police used water-canons to disperse protesters marching towards the chief minister's residence.
"I have no issues in meeting people and have asked them (protesters) to send two-three people," she said.
The 23-year-old woman, gang-raped by half-a-dozen men in a moving bus here Sunday night, is now battling for life in hospital.
The men also tortured her before dumping her on the road. Her male friend was also thrashed and thrown out of the bus along with her.
Five people have so far been arrested for the crime.

Thu, Dec 20 2012I do not blame any Govt for this, but being Capital of India , at least this state should be safe and good for living. And i personally think , this lady is not at all fit for this post of CM.Since Delhi is not a big state like UP that some one can not control the crime. Sheela's Govt has to take some responsibility and measures.

Thu, Dec 20 2012Mrs. Dikshit dont talk here about your politics. You people want to travel in cars and air with full security. Travel in bus during day and night without your guards and alone walkout in streets. Dont give childish comments. Give justice to the victim.

Wed, Dec 19 2012All you commentators here,
First let us clean our house before we go to clean others. The Rapists know very well that the final blame will be on the police and the politicians. That is fine. why do you ask the Delhi CM to resign ? When our own daughter Soujanya was gang raped and killed why dint you ask our Cm to resign.
This is utter cheating.Whether Soujanya's parents have received any justice till date? If you have any sympathy for our own victim ,fight for it and you will be blessed.

Wed, Dec 19 2012No one is politicizing the incident. But people are anguish over your and central Govt's incapability in providing the security to the people. As per the report daily 2 rapes occur in Delhi. Knowing the fact, you are not able to take any action. But you are busy in looting and sleeping..

Wed, Dec 19 2012SHEILA DIXITJI,
YOUR ITALIAN LED CONGRESS WAS POLITICISING EVERY ISSUES TO GARNER SOME VOTES.
TILL DATE YOUR PARTY CAPTINAS ARE TALIKNG ABOUT GODHRA ISSUE IN GUJARATH & ROARING THAT GUJARATH IS NOT SAFE FOR MINORITY.
WHAT IS THIS DOUBLE STANDARD POLITICS ?
AS PER YOU ALL SHOULD KEEP QUIET FOR CRIME IN YOUR STATE.
YOUR STATE IS NO.1 IN RAPING & MORE THAN TOTAL INCIDENTS OF OTHER 5 METRO CITIES MUMBAI, BANGALORE,HYDERBAD,CHENNAI & KOLAKATTA.
WE NEED FIRM ACTON AGAINST CULPRITS.
